Pirates and whatnot

So, went to see Dead Man's Chest Wednesday night. It was pretty good. Not as good as the first one, but that's the way it goes. Yaknow, now that it's going to be a trilogy it got me thinking: the plot is slightly reminiscent of Star Wars. A farm boy (blacksmith's apprentice) who finds out the dreadful truth about his father, a princess (governor's daughter) who is captured by the evil fleet of ships, and must be rescued only to show that she is a capable fighter herself, and a scoundrel (pirate) who finds himself doing the right thing a few too many times, and ends up trapped at the end of second movie (carbonite/inside a kraken), only to be subject to a rescue attempt in the third movie. Yes, other than the princess(governer's daughter)/scoundrel(pirate) love story not really existing, and the Princess(governer's daughter) and farmboy(blacksmith's apprentice) not being brother and sister, the stories are quite similar. I guess it's just a testament to the universal mythology of Star Wars. Pirates has it's own alure as well, however, and obviously it does well on it's own merits.

So here I am, working at the Maine College of Art (MECA). It's actually not bad since I had the rest of the week off this week. The attorney that I work for was on vacation, so I got to sleep in and watch the Tour de France. It was great. It's been a great Tour so far. For those of you that don't know, I've been a Tour de France fan since I was little. My Opa and I used to watch it whenever I went to visit him and my Oma in Belgium. Belgians are big cycling fans, especially those like my Opa who live in the northern Flanders region of Belgium. It's not quite the same without Lance, but it's still good.

The summer after my Freshman year in College, I even got to go to a stage in the Tour. It was really cool to see the cyclists fly by. The next day, we went to the starting point of the next stage and I waited in the crowd and got Lance Armstrong's autograph. It was really cool. So yeah, I'm a pretty big fan of the Tour.

Too bad about France and the World Cup, though. I was really routing for them.

I never thought of Pirates that way, pretty clever. I did enjoy the movie and was pretty upset with the way it ended - guess I'll be seeing the third :-P

I'd never watched anything other than pro sports on TV until today when some triathalon was on. It actually was pretty interesting, though I don't know how long I could watch just biking.
